Entrepreneurship in the modern world.
Whatever our insincts towards entrepreneurs there is no doubt that they will continue to have a huge impact in our societies brining new products to market and shaping social norms.
Change
Is an unavoidable characteristic of the modern world. Developments in technology and ecconomy are more interlinked than ever. Change feeds of growth and efficiency. However success is sought more quickly and failure is punished more ruthlessly. Customers expect continous improvements in the products that they consume. The boundaries between the world of the “market” and the public domain is being pushed back and blurred.
Entrepreneurship in the workplace or marketplace.
- Entrepreneurship is a style of management.
- Entrepreneurial management aims at pursuing opportunity and driving change.
- Entrepreneurial management is strategic management: that is management of the whole organisation.
- Entrepreneurism is an approach to management that can be learnt.
An individual must understand
It’s as much about regognition of misconceptions as it is about gaining knowledge. The entrepreneur is cloaked and surrounded by myth in so much of the literature and to a certain extent talked in terms of a state of mind which is truly unhelpful to the aspiring entrepreneur. So for new behaviours to be learnt then some preconceptions and attitudes must be challenged. I feel it is a complete falacy that people are “born” to greatness and are driven by “psychological forces beyond their control.”
That an entrepreneur is not defined by an historical or legal tie to some organisation or idea but what changes they make on that organisation or idea.
Entrepreneurial success is achievable by all it’s based on management skill and that the entrepreneurial path is open to anyone who is willing to tread it. Success will be measured in terms of personal effort, practice and knowledge rather than some pre ordained destiny.
